Which car for which trip?

City and wine country: an economy or compact car is plenty for Tbilisi, day trips and the gentle roads of Kakheti. Cheap to run and easy to park.

Kazbegi and mixed mountains: a sedan handles the paved Military Highway, but an SUV is more relaxed on the climbs and in shoulder-season weather.

Svaneti and Tusheti: take a genuine 4x4. The high passes to Mestia, Ushguli and Omalo are rough and seasonal, and a normal car will not cope.

Groups and airport runs: a minivan keeps a family or a group of friends together with room for the luggage, and is popular for Kutaisi pickups.
